KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It appears that Kauffman Stadium will host the 2012 All-Star game, according to a
report from Comcast Sports Net New England.
Royals spokesman Toby Cook confirms the K was one of two finalists for the game, along with Fenway Park in Boston, and Fenway has been eliminated, according to CSNNE.com.
After $250 million in renovations at Kauffman Stadium, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Seligh promised Kansas City a game by 2014.
This past summer, the five-day event pumped $60 million into the St. Louis economy, nearly as much as the $62 million the 2005 NCAA Men’s Final 4 brought to the city.
Cook would not confirm that Kauffman has officially landed the All-Star game, but he will be on NBC Action News Midday at 11 a.m. to discuss the possibility and also Zack Greinke’s chances at an American League Cy Young award, to be announced at 1 p.m. today.
CSNNE reports an official announcement on Kansas City as the destination will be made no later than next month’s MLB winter meetings.
