SHAWNEE, Kan. – A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night when two motorcycles collided in Shawnee.
Authorities responded around 5 p.m. to Kansas Highway 7 near 75th Street in western Shawnee on reports of an accident. The accident left one person dead and a second person injured.
On Sunday morning, authorities identified the victim as 56-year-old Overland Park resident Frank X. Zappa.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Zappa lost control of his motorcycle and hit a post. A second motorcycle then struck Zappa’s bike, causing both riders to be ejected onto the roadway.
The rider of the second motorcycle, 37-year-old Laramie, Wyo. resident Tory King was also injured. The extent of his injuries weren’t known Sunday morning.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet.
