OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A 27-year-old Overland Park man was killed Monday night after a collision with a police cruiser.

Investigators say just after 7 p.m., Jason Chronister was headed southbound on Blue Valley Parkway at about 123rd Street when he slammed into a parked police cruiser.

Chronister was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. He later died. The officer was not hurt.

A police report indicates the cruiser was legally parked on the left side of the road with its emergency lights on. The officer was conducting a routine traffic stop.

Southbound lanes of Blue Valley Parkway were closed for several hours Monday night as crews worked to clear the scene.

Traffic was diverted east to Metcalf or west to Antioch as alternate routes.
