RICHMOND, Mo. – About 6,300 Kansas City Power & Light customers have no power Friday morning after thunderstorms moved through the area.

The hardest hit areas are near Richmond and Lexington, north and east of Kansas City. As of 10 a.m., the KCP&L Online Power Outage Map listed more than 1,000 outages in both areas. The scattered thunderstorms left several thousands more without power in spotted areas throughout the metro.

In Richmond, there are reports of damage to at least three buildings, including a house with a tree on it in the 200 block of Grandview and a lumber yard on Lexington and Thornton.

Damage and power outages were also reported in Cameron, Mo., but initial reports indicate no serious damage.

NBC Action Weather Meteorologist Brett Anthony says we should continue to see scattered thunderstorms until about 2 p.m. Friday, and then it will get hot and humid with a high around 89.

The next chance of thunderstorms returns Saturday afternoon, but we should otherwise have a nice weekend, Brett says. Get the latest weather updates on the NBC Action News Weather Page, where you can also read the Action Weather Blog.
