I remember Luke when he lived in Excelsior Springs. He was an idiot then running around like he was unstoppable, and the city let him get away with it. I witnessed him throwing beer bottles in my yard, and constantly harassing somebody that I know. The way this town runs, it breeds these idiot meth heads that run havoc on anyone that just wants to live a normal life without having to deal with these kind of people. Personally I know this doesn't change anything, but I really do believe that if the towns around here step up and put a stop to the crap that goes on around here, then maybe there won't be completely obliterated people driving like maniacs killing innocent people. Those of you that stick up for him should be ashamed of yourself, and stop and think about the families that are suffering. You're right, he's not going to be electrocuted, worse he's going to be put in a housing unit with a bunch of men that haven't had sex for years with anyone but little men, that don't put up much of a fight. I don't know if you've looked at Luke lately, but I don't see him putting up too much of a fight. Then after a while it will be all so natural and he'll just give it up for free, probably because he's tired of the bruises. Friends will forget about him, and eventually his kids and his girlfriend will find another male figure that's hopefully better than he ever was. Personally I hope he picks up the AIDS virus in prison, and dies soon after that.

Luke should be prosacuted beyond the full exstent. Driving drunk and having no reguard for other people. I too know his girlfriend and kids. I love them all and don't want any thing to happen to them for all he has done. He sits in rest home and is able to come and go like nothing happened. The people of the lady that died should get him thrown in Jail. If nothing happenes to him, he will NEVER learn. He is a looser. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased. Yes there was a police officer behind him. Luke knew if he got stopped, he would go to Jail. Better that then spending 30 years in Jail for manslaughter and hurting innocent people.

I hate to break it to everyone out there that doesn't know a thing about the accident or the law but still want to make an uneducated comment on the situation: WHAT HAPPENED WILL NEVER LEAD TO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!! This is not a case of murder one; it is a case of vehicular manslaughter. There was no chase, the officer who witnessed the wreck did not even have his lights on to persue Bates. Bates is a father to three beautiful boys and a son to two wonderful parents. He has his faults just like the rest of us. He did not leave his house that day intending to kill someone in an accident. He is severely injured, emotionally and physically. The punishment he is giving himself is much worse than anything the government will throw at him. Instead of condeming him to hell why don't you try to pray for the future of his three children and their mother who will have to try to survive without him while he is serving his debt to society; a punishment he is willing to accept.

The fact IS there was a State Patrol involved. HE pursed the TRASH - Bates. He Chased him for 2.5 miles. THAT IS A FACT! I have the report. I spoke to both troopers. BATES NEEDS TO FRY!! In time everyone will be aware of the truth.

I've said prayers everyday for Mr. Smallwood, but have not talked to anybody yet in Shirley's family to see if they've heard anything. If I hear something, I will let you know.

I know many Mindy's. I have not talked to my mom so I'm not sure if it might be her. My dad never sleeps, so I cant imagne it being him. Does anyone know how everyone else from te accident are doing? God bless all of you.

I went to the services Tuesday night - I don't know how many people were there (there were LOTS). People were there before 6:00 p.m. and we were the last ones that left with Shirley's youngest daughter at 10:00 p.m. One of Mindy's friends told us that someone living by where it happened was having trouble sleeping because of what they saw. If that is someone in your household lawsonmommy89, God bless you and know that I also have anyone else that helped in my prayers. Shirley left behind many, many people who loved her and those in her family. When I worked with her youngest daughter, I often admired the job that Shirley did in raising her. She did an awesome job as a mom. She will be sorely missed.
