Who enforces these laws?

There are many rules and regulations for housing policy at national, state and local levels. Depending on the particular violation at issue, there are literally dozens of organizations and levels of government that enforce it. For instance, the Fair Housing Act is a federal law that makes it illegal to discriminate against housing applicants. A violation of this law would first be brought to the attention to the Secretary of the department of Housing And Urban Development but might ultimately end up in federal court. States also have their own laws regarding rent control and property maintenance, though. If a dispute should arise over issues that are covered under state law, you should contact the Housing Authority in your state. Additionally, most large metropolitan areas will have their own government agencies such as the Housing Authority or Rent Control Board who handle such matters. In the case of a dispute that arises over the sale of a property, the most common forms of resolution are mediation, arbitration and lawsuits. For more information about the enforcement of real estate law, contact a real estate lawyer in your area.
