OVERLAND PARK, Kansas - It's the end of the road for Pontiac. As part of its bankruptcy reorganization, General Motors is dumping the brand.
In the wake of General Motors' plans to discontinue the Pontiac marquee, Pontiac fans in the Kansas City area gathered Tuesday to pay tribute to the cars they enjoy driving.
Car enthusiasts from the Arrowhead Chapter Pontiac Club came out Tuesday evening to proudly show off their classic rides – it's recognition to the Pontiac line that as of today will no longer be available.
Pontiac clubs across the nation are declaring June 1 as Pontiac Tribute Day and encourage everyone to get out and relive the excitement of the Pontiac brand.
“I talked to a guy and he said he is mourning you know how that goes; we are celebrating it you know. There is a lot of Pontiacs out there to celebrate,” said Michael Darr who drives a Pontiac.
“Those cars will really be legendary in the auto industry for many years to come,” said Bob Wolf who also drives a Pontiac.
Even though the brand is gone, groups like the Arrowhead Chapter Pontiac Club say it makes their cars that much more special and that the spirit of Pontiac will live on.
Local dealers say Pontiacs were good local sellers partly because some were assembled at KCK’s Fairfax Plant.
