KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for most of the metro late Wednesday afternoon.
It includes most of the counties in the viewing area in both Kansas and Missouri. The only county not included is Platte.
The National Weather Service also issued a tornado watch stretching from Trenton, Mo. to Chillicothe, Mo.
A tornado did touch down in Kirksville, Mo. around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No injured were reported, but the damage is said to be in the thousands of dollars.
According to NBC Action Weather Plus Meteorologist Jeremy Nelson, the greatest chance for severe weather stretches from Interstate 35 at the Iowa border to Emporia, Kan. and points southeast.
The storm was sparked by a cold front that approached the region.
However, Nelson said, more watches for the Kansas City metro could be issued throughout the night.
A series of storms moved through the Kansas City metro early Wednesday morning, but no damage was reported.
