The rain is moving away and we didn't have enough to cause any flooding.

The heaviest thunderstorms ended up shifting to the southeast and now only light rain showers are leftover.

The thunderstorms ended up forming near the warmer air south and east of Kansas City and this is why it is exiting so fast.

There is a very good chance that the Royals will get their game in tonight and our next chance of any significant rain could return later this week.

The first round of storms Monday produced only 0.31 inches of rain at Kansas City International Airport, but some locations near Kansas City did have almost two inches of rain earlier today.

A second round of rain with embedded heavy thunderstorms will move in from the southwest later this afternoon and then end from west to east this evening.

An additional one to two inches of rain could fall with this last band of heavier thunderstorms which is targeting the south side of the Kansas City metro area.

There is no chance of any large hail or damaging winds, but there will be some lightning and the possibility of localized flooding.

Updated by Brett Anthony at Noon

Heavy rain is falling in parts of the Kansas City metro area and reports of hail are coming into the NBC Action Weather Center.

NBC Action Weather Meteorologist Brett Anthony says this first round of rain and hail could last as long as until about 1 p.m., when we’ll see a break in the precipitation until a second system moves through later this afternoon.

Brett says we’ve already seen reports of hail south of Kansas City and the NBC Action Weather Radar has picked up small amounts of hail in parts of Johnson County, Kan.

Both systems, the one moving through this morning and the one expected to arrive around 3:30 p.m., are expected to bring with it periods of heavy rain and possible hail.

After the second system moves through, Brett says, there is a chance for more rain or thunderstorms later in the night and into Tuesday, but he said it’s too early to tell for sure when or if they would develop.
