December 2009 will be remembered as a snowy, cold month.  But is it the snowiest December ever?  No, but it is close.

December 2009 ranks as the 3rd snowiest on record.  Below is a list of the top 5 snowiest Decembers.  The snowfall totals were recorded at KCI.

1.  December 1961-------16.6
2.  December 1918-------16.4
3.  December 2009-------15.1
4.  December 1945-------14.8
5.  December 1983-------13.2

Here are a couple of other facts about Kansas City's snowy month:
  • It has snowed at least a trace 13 days this month.
  • The most snow recorded on any one day at KCI was 3.7 inches of snow on Christmas Eve.
  • During the Christmas blizzard we also set a "daily snowfall record for Christmas Day" - 3.3 inches of snow fell on Christmas, shattering a record that stood since 1895!
