Busy Sunday Night for Storm Chasers

HIAWATHA, Kan. - Supercell thunderstorms formed near the Nebraska/Kansas border, just west of Hiawatha, Kan., Sunday afternoon.

The cap broke, and two cells turned right. One of the cells was rotating and came close to producing a tornado, but it just didn't want to do it.

As the cells moved across the Missouri River they started producing baseball to softball size hailstones, and eventually there were some brief tornado touchdowns later in the evening.

Take a look at the storm chase video on the right of the screen from Leslie and Dean Barton.

They live in Independence, Mo., but often go storm chasing. The video is a brief look at their chase and it finishes with the obvious damage from one of the huge hail stones.
