KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shoppers all across the metro will be packing stores Saturday not only for those post-holiday bargains, but also to return those gifts that don’t quite fit or that they don’t want.
It’s estimated that $43 billion in gifts will be returned or exchanged nationally this year, with the day after Christmas being one of the busiest return days of the year.
According to the National Retail Federation, more than $2.5 million dollars of the gifts returned will be fraudulent.
To help decrease that figure, retails are tightening their return policies this year.
As always, the best way to ensure a smooth gift exchange is to have the receipt. If you don’t the most you might be able to get is a store credit.
Other stores might decrease the amount eligible for an exchange due to restocking fees, though policies vary by store.
On average, stores offer a 15-day return window.
Also, be aware, as some stores will not take back a gift if it was purchased online.
