WASHINGTON - President elect Barack Obama says he’d like to give money as a stocking stuffer for Americans this holiday season.
During his first news conference since the election Obama said there is no quick way to revive the economy. However, he is confident it will get done.
"Now's a good time for us to set politics aside for awhile and think practically about what will actually work to move the economy forward, and it is in that spirit I'll have a conversation with the President," says Obama.
He says he would like to see stimulus checks sent out during the lame duck session of Congress. He says if it isn’t done then he will make it a priority after he takes office.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, meantime, is now pushing an immediate income tax cut as opposed to Rebate Checks, as we received earlier in the year. She says companies could start giving workers more money in their checks immediately, as opposed to waiting months for checks to be mailed out.
Congress will start debating the stimulus Nov.17.
