More than 8,000 voters went to four Johnson County polling places Monday — a single-day Kansas record since advance voting began in 1996.
Election Commissioner Brian Newby expects more than 120,000 people to cast ballots in advance, a 30 percent increase over the 2004 record.
Many are casting ballots in person to avoid long lines on Election Day. But they are finding lines now.
The wait, for example, may be up to 40 minutes at Metcalf South Shopping Center in Overland Park. But it will be longer Tuesday, Newby warned.
