KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Voters approved a 27 mile light rail plan developed by light rail advocate Clay Chastain two years ago.
But City Hall repealed that plan saying it was too costly and unfeasible.
Tuesday, voters cast their votes on a three quarter cent sales tax increase to pay for a 14 mile starter line.
North Kansas City voters are voting on a 1/2 cent tax for light rail.
The route from Vivion Road through the Plaza to 63rd Street would cost $815 million.
But proponents have been very nervous about the outcome. Two weeks ago the polls narrowed significantly.
Fifty percent polled liked the idea, 50 percent said no.
Opponents believe they have the advantage Tuesday night.
The election board says we likely will not know the results until at least 10:30 p.m.
