Flags Lowered in Honor of Fallen Metro Marine

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered all U.S. and Missouri flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of a Kansas City Marine killed in Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Nicholas Hand, 20, of Kansas City was buried Monday in Leavenworth, Kan. He died Nov. 22 while serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In addition to the statewide order in effect for Tuesday, Gov. Nixon has also ordered all U.S. and Missouri flags on state buildings in Clay County to remain at half-staff through Dec. 7.

Lance Corporal Hand was assigned to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
