KNOB NOSTER, Mo. - An apartment fire took the life a small child.

The fire broke out Friday morning in Knob Noster, Mo.

The police chief says an infant had been left in a car seat carrier on top of an electric stove.

The baby’s mom told police she thought she set the carrier on the counter to keep him away from his 19-month older brother. She had gone upstairs when she heard the smoke alarm.

The mom suffered burns to both of her hands trying to grab the burning carrier.

She and the older child escaped.
