TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas' tax collections continue to fall short of expectations.

The Department of Revenue reported Friday that the state collected almost $15 million less in taxes than anticipated in October. The shortfall for the month was 3.6 percent.

The agency also said that for the current fiscal year, which began July 1, taxes are about $80 million short of expectations.

The department's preliminary figures for the month are another sign that coming revenue projections will be more pessimistic than the current ones. The new projections will be issued next week.

Parkinson has already said he's ready to make additional spending cuts this year to keep the budget balanced. He made cuts and other budget adjustments in July.
