ATCHISON, Kan. – Members of the legendary Ninety-Nines, the females-only aviation group begun by Amelia Earhart in 1929, will be in Atchison on Friday, October 23rd, to help celebrate the release of Fox Searchlight’s new biopic "Amelia". The film, starring Hilllary Swank ("Million Dollar Baby"), details the life of the pioneer aviatrix, who mysteriously disappeared on the final stretch of a record-breaking round-the-world flight. The Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum will be unveiling an exhibit featuring props, costumes, and mementos from the film. Earlier in the month, the props were dedicated in a ceremony in New York City, attended by Hillary Swank, the film’s director, Mira Nair ("Monsoon Wedding"), and Susan Larson, current president of the Ninety-Nines (the title originally held by Earhart herself). At the unveiling in Atchison, Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum representative Carole Sutton will be on-hand, as well as the coordinator of the Amelia Earhart festival, Jacque Pregont. "Amelia" will also be debuting at the Royal Theatre during the event. Tickets are $10 per person, which includes a ticket to see the film and admission to the museum.
