OLATHE, Kan. – A spokeswoman with the FBI says a fugitive was critically wounded Sunday night in a shootout with federal authorities.

Around 7:15 p.m., the Violent Crimes Safe Streets Task Force located a man wanted for aggravated assault in the parking lot outside the Subway at a shopping center in the 1200 block of East 51st Street in Olathe, Bridget Patton, who works in the Kansas City office of the FBI, said.

Not a lot of information had been released as of early Monday morning, but investigators said the suspect, believed to be a 27-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Witnesses have told NBC Action News anywhere from 12 to 20 shots were exchanged. The suspect was the only person injured. A teenage employee at Subway rushed to action to keep himself, his fellow employees and customers safe. Read His Story Here
