SHAWNEE, Ks. - A Shawnee police officer with a keen eye helped nab two stolen vehicles from two neighboring cities Friday morning.

Shortly after 5am a Shawnee police officer saw a Chevy pickup being followed closely by a Monte Carlo, and became concerned it might bge a disturbance, or maybe one of the drivers may be drunk.

The officer caught up to the two vehicles at I-435 & Johnson Drive, and attempted a car stop.

The pair exited onto Johnson Drive, and the officer saw the pickup was towing the car with a chain.

The duo refused to stop, and a short time later another officer saw the car attempt to pass the truck, the tow chain got tangled and the car and pickup crashed into each other.

The driver of the pickup ran into the woods.

Police set up a perimeter and called for the Lenexa K-9.

A short time later Timothy Jay Cooper was caught hiding in a horse trailer. He was armed with a handgun.

Cooper was arrested on auto theft and obstruction charges.

The pickup has been reported stolen from Overland Park, the Monte Carlo reported stolen from Olathe.

Police are still questioning the driver of the Monte Carlo.

No injuries were reported.
