BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. -- Police were engaged in a standoff with a man barricaded in a Bonner Springs apartment to surrender since Monday morning.

Officers were called to Bonner Highlands Apartments, near 131st Street and Kansas Avenue, in response to a disturbance at the apartments just before 9 a.m.

A boyfriend and girlfriend had an argument inside one of the apartments when the man pushed the woman out and refused to let her back inside.

The man kept a 1-year-old child inside the apartment with him, and police were called.  The man refused to come out.

A short time later, they called Kansas City, Kan., officers to help them negotiate with the man.

The child was eventually released but police continued to negotiate with the man.

The man surrendered at about 2 p.m. Monday.
