KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police are searching for three people who broke into a home Monday evening and injured one person.

Around 8:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Campbell in regard to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they learned that three males had broken into the home through the front door. At the time, a mother with two young children was at the home with her sister.

The people inside the house ran outside and went to a neighbor's home to call the police.

When the neighbor heard what was happening, he grabbed a gun and went to confront the robbers. Several shots were exchanged inside the house.

Authorities say the neighbor was hit in the back with non-life threatening injuries.

"We're lucky it didn't turn out worse," said Sgt. Chris Sicoli with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. "We don't advise people to go looking for trouble in a situation like that."

Police are still looking for the suspects, who are described as three males ages 17-20.

If you have any information, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
