KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A Kansas City, Kan. man faces more than 50 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to federal check counterfeiting and tax charges.
Christopher Summers, 32, admitted preparing forged payroll checks in the names of co-conspirators who cashed the checks at Wal-Mart stores in the Kansas City area.
Summers also prepared false W-2 tax forms for conspirators who were not employed. Those conspirators used the forms to electronically file a tax return and receive an instant loan based on the refund amount.
Summers will be sentenced in May. The government is recommending a 51 month federal prison sentence.
