KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Art Institute informed workers their personal information was compromised.

The Institute sent a letter to workers saying a human resources laptop was stolen.

It contained information like social security numbers and birthdays of current and former employees.

The Institute is offering $1,000 reward.

It also recommends workers monitor bank accounts and credit card statements for the next two years.

You can place a fraud alert on your credit report with any of the major credit bureaus.

You can do it either online or via the phone.

Even if you do not have any suspicious activity on your credit reports, the Federal Trade Commission recommends you check your credit reports periodically.
