KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A 25-year-old Guatemalan pleaded guilty Tuesday to buying and selling firearms illegally at gun shows.
Mynor Guerra who was living in Overland Park admitted to buying the firearms and selling them to someone who then turned out and sold them in Mexico, according to Don Ledford, spokesman for U.S. Attorney Matt Whitworth.
Guerra is expected to be sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison with no parole.
Guerra admitted he had been buying the assault rifles for the past six months. He was arrested in late July after he was seen by federal agents acting suspiciously at a gun show near the Kansas City International Airport.
He took a circuitous route through a parking lot and looked over his shoulder several times before putting the rifle in a trunk of a car. He then went back into the gun show and paid cash for an assault rifle without filling out the necessary paperwork.
When federal agents arrested him, he had a fraudulent Missouri driver's license and a false Social Security card. Also in the car was a gun show calendar showing shows in various states.
Guerra could have faced up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
