KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man admitted Tuesday he drove the getaway car in two bank robberies.
Michael Leak, 19, of Columbia, Mo., pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and abetting another person in two armed bank robberies, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Kansas City.
Leak drove a Buick LeSabre after a July 2, 2009, bank robbery at the Bank of Brookfield in Winigan, Mo.
Leak and his alleged accomplice robbed another bank less than a week later.
This time, Leak was the driver when his partner robbed the Farmers & Commercial Bank, 124 W. Second St., in Holden, Mo.
Law officers spotted the Buick LeSabre a few miles from the bank and a chase began.
The passenger in the Buick opened fire on the deputy with a rifle.
The shots slammed into the patrol car, but the deputy and the Holden Police Chief kept going.
Leak managed to elude capture and officers found the car in flames in a field.
Law officers tracked Leak to a Columbia, Mo., motel room and arrested him the next day.
No word on the status of the case of the alleged robber.
