KANSAS CITY, Mo. --The Clay County Prosecutor's Office filed burglary charges Monday against a man and a woman who were spotted leaving a residence and fled from a pursuing Claycomo police vehicle.
Karie Reynolds was charged with first-degree burglary and bond was set at $150,000, according to a news release. The man, Christopher Clingenpeel was also charged with first-degree burglary. He suffered serious injuries in the crash. No bond was set for Clingenpeel.
A Claycomo police vehicle was chasing a vehicle along Interstate 435 when the suspect vehicle crashed, Kansas City officials said Saturday night.
The wreck happened just after 8 p.m. at the southbound Truman Road exit off I-435.
In a statement, Claycomo police said about 7:40 p.m. a homeowner called 911 to report a burglary at her home in the 200 block of Randolph Road. Claycomo police said when they arrived they saw a woman and a man running from the house to a vehicle.
"They then fled the scene in a green Pontiac racing through residential areas exceeded 100 miles per hour," according to the statement.
Claycomo followed the vehicle into Kansas City.
The car took the Truman Road exit off I-435 at a high rate of speed and hit the dividing island., according to Kansas City police. The car flipped at least once and landed in a drainage ditch on the west side of the road, police said.
Both the woman and man were ejected. The woman is in good condition at an area hospital. The man is in serious condition. His injuries are not life threatening but could be disabling. More information on the suspects including their identity was not available Saturday night.
The Claycomo police vehicle did not crash, officials said.
The investigation continues including determining for certain who was driving.
The owner of the Claycomo home was not injured.
