KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This has been an amazing summer, with all the rain and cool weather we've had the lawns have looked great all summer long, but it's also brought a few problems.
The grass has been growing so much that it's using fertilizer more than ever. It's more important now to fertilize three times this Fall than ever before.
Current university research shows that about 75% of your lawns current fertilizer needs should be applied in the Fall and only light applications in the Spring.
A good lawn needs at least two applications in the Fall. But a great lawn or the best looking lawn in the neighborhood will need three applications of fertilizer.
In September a standard lawn fertilizer containing slow release
nitrogen, and then an application of Winterizer fertilizer in October and then another application of Winterizer Fertilizer in November.
All the rain we've had this summer has caused a lot of problems with broadleaf weeds. Before you get ready to fertilize, walk around the lawn, if you have very many weeds, a weed and feed would be a great product to use.
