KANSAS CITY, Mo, - We may love them and buy them, but sometimes we do not think where we are going to plant our new plants.
The problem is it might be the wrong exposure, maybe the plant is going to get 20 feet tall when you should only have a plant three feet tall.
“When a homeowner comes in and starts picking plant materials, you know, I like one of this and one of that. It can look real spotty when you put it all together. You want a lot of continuity to your landscape,” said Gary Lueckenotto, Landscape Designer at Rosehill Gardens.
Lueckenotto suggests people get good evergreens because those are going to be there year round, then you want a good mix of flowering shrubs, perennials, things that don't require a lot of maintenance.
Also, he recommends, for proper drainage, you slope landscape beds away from you home.
Fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs, but always plan before you plant consult a professional.
