How to Keep Your Home Safe With the Furnace On

Last Update: 10/03 12:52 pm
The night time temperatures are starting to get cool so our furnaces are going to be coming on.

This is the most dangerous piece of equipment in your home. So it is important to know how to fire that thing up and make your home safe.

Definitely check it before you need it.

Things happen over the summer; sometimes people will store things that are combustible near the furnace.

Sometimes people place wood near the furnace, not thinking about it inadvertently because it wasn't on, well that needs to be removed away from there.

Homeowners can certainly, again check for combustible materials; make sure that there's no liquids with vapors that could be coming off, that would be flammable vapors.

Homeowners can also check the filter and make sure that they have a clean filter. Just inspect the area. Does the vent pipe look like its secure, does the gas piping look okay?

For your safety Toby recommends to call a professional and have your furnace serviced annually.
