ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western's playoff hopes are on the line after a 30-21 loss to Nebraska-Omaha Saturday at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph.

The Griffons, 8-3 (6-3 MIAA) came into the game ranked 5th in Super Region 4, where only the top 6 teams make the playoffs. The Griffons will need to wait until Sunday afternoon when the Division II Playoff bracket is announced to see if they make the playoffs.

Elsewhere in the region, No. 1 Central Washington was beating GNAC rival Western Oregon 6-0 at halftime Saturday afternoon; No. 2 Northwest Missouri beat No. 6 Central Missouri 56-14; No. 3 Tarleton State (Texas) plays West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Saturday; No. 4 Abilene Christian (Texas) lost to No. 7 Midwestern State; No. 8 Texas A&M Kingsville plays at No. 10 Angelo State Saturday night and No. 9 Washburn beat Emporia State 56-35.

Nebraska-Omaha (7-4, 6-3) is out of the playoff hunt, but will likely now get its pick of two bowl games which feature MIAA programs.

The playoffs begin next week and the MIAA, widely considered one of the best conferences in all of Division II football, may only see one team (Northwest Missouri) participating.
