KANSAS CITY, Mo. – About a dozen residents of a Westport building were evacuated Friday morning when a fire broke out in one of the homes.
Emergency crews were called to 1111 West 46th St. around 4 a.m. Authorities tell NBC Action News everybody got out of the building okay, but residents of at least six units had to be evacuated as a precaution.
Fire crews tell us the fire started in a third floor unit in the walls and floors so it was initially hard to find, but it was located and put out within a few minutes.
Officials say at least one person lived in the unit where the fire started and a smoke detector helped that resident get out safely.
