ATLANTA - The parents of a college student from Kansas City announced a lawsuit Thursday against the Atlanta university where she was killed last month.

Jasmine Lynn, 19, a graduate of Lincoln College Prep Academy in Kansas City, was shot and killed Sept. 3 as she and a group of friends walked on the campus of Clark-Atlanta University.

A fight broke out nearby and shots were fired. One person has been charged in the shooting.

Jasmine was a student at neighboring Spelman College, which shares several buildings with Clark-Atlanta.

Jasmine’s parents say in their suit the university neglected to provide adequate security.

Jasmine's parents, Constance Franklin and Clint Lynn, filed the suit in Fulton County State Court just before a 8:30 a.m. news conference announcing the suit.

Clark Atlanta spokesman Larry Calhoun declined requests made by the Associated Press Wednesday for comment because he had not yet seen the lawsuit.
