Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Preheat Oven to 425 degrees

Combine in a bowl:
4 Cups Unbleached All Purposed Flour
4 Teas Baking Powder
1 Teas Baking Soda
2 Teas Salt
2 Tablespoons Sugar

Mix well then using clean hands mix in:
3/4 cup Shortening (softened butter may also be used)

Stir in:
1 1/4 Cups Buttermilk

Mix dough well in the bowl, adding more milk if needed until you have a nice elastic dough. Knead in the bowl for about a minute. Place dough on a floured hard surface and with a rolling pin, roll to 3/4 inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2" biscuit cutter and place on slightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 425 for 15-18 minutes or until
golden.

Makes 12 biscuits

Sausage Gravy

1 lb Pork Sausage (bulk)
1 qt Milk
2/3 Cup Flour
1/2 Teas Salt
1 1/2 Teas Pepper

In a large saucepan oven medium heat, break up and brown sausage. Once sausage is browned, stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook together for about one minute. Add milk and continuing stirring. Reduce heat to medium low and stir frequently until gravy is thickened and creamy, about 8-10 minutes.
