SEATTLE - A new study shows intensive behavioral and relationship-based therapies can help children as young as 18-months who've been diagnosed with Autism.
Over 5 years, researchers at the University of Washington studied 48 autistic toddlers and preschoolers.
Half were referred to community-based programs. The others received 25 hours of therapy each week in their home from their parents and trained specialists.
The home-based, intensive therapy led to significantly better IQ scores, language ability, and social skills.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all 18- and 24-month old children be screened for Autism.
