Week 3, Day 4: Go Red, I Feel "Better" Already

Something about his week's BetterU program details is still lingering with me, even though the week's almost over. You see, I have had a hard time going digital. A few years back I tried the palm pilot to try and "get with the time" when it came to my three-ring purse calendar. Couldn't do it. I've tried to go digital with my calendar at work, but find I end up with several different calendars that aren't synced (one for work, one for appointments, and one for family stuff). Still have this problem. My Blackberry calendar is probably the closest I've ever been to being synced.

But, and this is a big but (which all of us are trying to avoid, right?!?! LOL), this particular program is working for me...all...on...line. Okay. So, with that said, I can move on to the much more important elements of this week and next week.

Logging everything I ate this week was eye-opening, to say the least. I wasn't as "balanced" as I'd have thought, and ate a tad more chocolate than I'd have imagined (which makes me chuckle).

Also, I've found myself falling off the wagon a little in the physical activity category. The program specifically says not to let "no time" or "no energy" be an excuse for forgoing physical activity. I've been guilty of both of these excuses this week. I keep justifying climbing the stairs five-THOUSAND times to take up laundry, find the dog, check on my son (who's been playing VERY well in his room lately - since we bought him a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lot off craiglist), etc. My good friends at the Heart Association say my sets of stairs do count. WHEW!

Anywho...I've finished week 3, and feel like some of the changes are starting to become - dare I say it - routine. We all know, for busy working women, something becoming part of our rourtine is absolutely KEY!!!

Now, for week 4. Surrounding ourselves with a network of support. Can be tough. Some of us don't have family around. Colleagues at work can be great, but sometimes it's nice to have a network outside of work, too. That's where online blogs and forums can be such a life saver (literally).

Week 4, which starts this coming Monday morning, is all about strengthening our support systems. Flourish magazine is a local sponsor of the Kansas City Go Red BetterU wave and they've set up their website so we can all blog and chat there. Several women are already blogging and chatting with each other, and the site has the potential to be your extended support system should you need it.

I have to keep reminding myself, I'm trying to complete this program so I can be a healthier wife, mom and me. I want to reduce my risk of heart disease for my son and unborn baby. I want to make sure I'm around to keep taking care of my husband (so he doesn't end up eating frozen meals for the rest of his life because I'm not here to cook for him). I want to be a healthier me for this unborn baby I'm carrying. I want to be around to see him start kindergarten (Oh my...), and graduate high school, and get married, and have children. (Oh...here comes the pregnancy emotion).

We can do this, ladies, together.

It's never too late to sign up. Click here to go to the Go Red BetterU website.
