Happy Monday,
Its Summer and summer vacations are in full swing. Here in Kansas City this week, there is no break from the heat. This will be the hottest stretch of weather we have experienced since last Summer. With that in mind, we all need to acclimate, or reacquaint our bodies with dealing with the heat and humidity.
Why is it so hot this week? A ridge of high pressure is building over the area at 18-thousand feet. That's a lot of hot air piling up over the region.
You can see it here on the map below.

The result should be a string of days with highs in the mid 90s and heat indices between 105 and 110. A Heat Advisory is in effect through Wednesday. A Heat Advisory, by definition, is issued when the heat and humidity combined should produce a heat index between 105 and 115 degrees for less than three hours, or two consecutive overnight lows are not expected below 80 degrees.
The ridge of high pressure should begin to break down late this week into the weekend, but for right now Summer is here.
Enjoy it.
