OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – One metro area police department wants to add more green to their red and blue.

Overland Park, Kan. police officials say they want three more hybrid cars.

The department already has 15 hybrids.

But the cars will not be used in chases. Instead, they would be used by detectives, school resource officers and staff.

"I think people realize that they want to see their tax money used well. They want to see us be as economically responsible as possible and this is certainly one way that we can do that." said police spokesperson Jim Weaver.

The department hopes to use $65,000 in federal stimulus money for the three additional hybrid cars.

The Overland Park city council has scheduled a public hearing to discuss the plan on Monday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at City Hall at 8500 Antioch Rd.
