KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The costs of properly recycling computer equipment can add up.

Hoping to help the public, Goodwill has launched a new program accepting all computer equipment to recycle free of charge.  They also offer to clean out your personal information.

“So far we've collected about 115 tons of computer equipment that we're able to keep out of the landfill," says Stuart Hoffman who is Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill.

The new program doesn't just benefit people hoping to bring in their old printers and desktop computers.

Since starting the program, Goodwill officials say they have been able to employ ten workers with disabilities.

James Ward, one of the new employees, says the training he got is put to good use.

"It was hard work at first and once my supervisor told me the techniques and everything I got used to it," says Ward.

Ward says he loves coming to work everyday.

"I love it, yeah, it's very fun," he says.

The computer recycling service is available at 18 Goodwill stores in the metro.  They hope to expand the program soon.
