OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A first of its kind vertical-axis turbine is going up on top of the A.L. Huber building in Overland Park, Kan.
Wednesday morning, crews will begin installing the new addition to the building located at Interstate 435 and Roe.
This turbine's rotor speed is much slower than the traditional design. The company says it is helping to make the turbine better suited for urban and suburban areas.
The outpouring in the community for urban wind turbines is increasing. City officials continue to receive requests from offices, churches, and schools.
Monday the City's Planning Committee talked about regulating these types of turbines. They discussed how they should look and height restrictions.
The city of Overland Park is expected to make a decision on regulations for urban turbines Dec. 7.
