KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The North Kansas City School District is paving the way for a greener tomorrow and it’s all happening at Bell Prairie Elementary.

On Monday, a team of engineers and construction workers put the finishing touches on the certified green building.

The school at 108th Street and Shoal Creek Parkway will teach kindergarten through fifth grade.

The school features a rooftop garden, a cistern to capture rainfall, and a functioning windmill to pump water to the roof!

Principal Linda Greason says it'll be quite the learning experience for students and teachers.

"There are tremendous opportunities for our children to live and breathe from plant life on top of the rooftop.”

The school is almost complete; it just needs some landscaping around the building. The school should be ready to welcome students in August.
