LAWRENCE, Kan. - The National Science Foundation has awarded a $20 million grant to Kansas researchers for work on renewable energy and climate change issues.
The University of Kansas, Wichita State University, Kansas State University, and Haskell Indian Nations University are all involved in the research.
The five year grant goes to a Kansas program that links researchers from different universities.
An additional $4 million will be provided by the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp., which is a state agency that deals with high-tech businesses, the University of Kansas, and Kansas State University.
Program director Kristin Bowman-James said, "We're hoping to have Kansas make an impact on the renewable energy and climate change issues and to become recognized as a leader in this area."
On its web site, the Lawrence Journal-World reported some of the research will involve using nanotechnology to harness solar energy and the prediction of the effects of climate change.
