BERKELEY, Calif. - Fast food restaurants are hoping menu items that are good for the earth and the body will fuel new sales.

Amanda’s Feel Good Fast Food in Berkeley is one of the latest restaurants to offer a new twist on the conventional burgers and fries joint.

The burgers are made with all natural beer and the fries are baked instead of fried. Customers can wash down their meals with organic agave nectar sodas.

“Every decision we make in this community is about creating a healthy community. And that’s from a healthy menu and that’s also from a healthy environment,” said restaurant founder Amanda West.

Sellar’s Market in San Francisco is using the same business model, and hoping to take a bite out of the traditional fast food market.

West said her commitment to going green stretches beyond just the food.

“Eight-five percent of our waste is either recycled or composted,” West said. That even includes grease.

She’s hoping to expand her restaurant beyond Berkeley in the future.
