KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Four UMKC schools teamed up to offer free medical and dental care Saturday.

It was all part of the university's first Health Sciences Wellness Fair. The event had been in the works for about a year. About 450 volunteers were on hand from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Health Sciences building at Charlotte and 25th.

Free services included: immunizations, HIV testing, high blood pressure and cholesterol screening, tips on how to quit smoking and vision, hearing and dental screenings.

Anyone 18-years-old and under got a full physical exam.

During the event, people signed up for Medicaid and Medicare. They also got information on free follow-up care.

Faculty, staff and students from the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy were all represented.
