all I can say as King better read his e-mail as I sent him a scathing remarks and it looks like several others have done the same. "just the facts maam" as Sgt Joe Friday would say. Needles to say they got it wrong again this as usual.

Man you guys are desperate for subjects to report on. I implore you to look at the commercial vehicle causation study and determine how many of the drivers involved were actually medically unfit to drive. The ACTUAL statistics are so low in the medical arena that they barely show up on the chart. The major cause of accidents involving commercial vehicles are caused by the 4 wheeled type. 78 percent in fact. AND to top it all off there is a huge percentage of those 4 wheelers that were under the influence of something. The rest were people that drive as if a commercial vehicle could stop in the same distance as a 4 wheeler. Stop vilifying the truckers that bring you your necessities, as they sacrifice time away from family to make sure that you have groceries in your refrigerator. What happened to accurate journalism, that included research. Stories like these give good drivers like my husband a bad name. He has one million plus accident /incident free miles under his belt.

This report shows reporters have inadequately investigated the procedure to obtain a medical card . FMCSA requires every carrier to maintain a file on all drivers . All O/O's with their own authority must keep a file on themselves and know they will have a mandatory audit . Among the required documents in the file is the long form for the physical signed by the physician . No lrgitimate carrier would let a driver behind the wheel without having this form and all most all carriers send drivers to designated physicians . Yes , some carriers are slack on making sure drivers renew their physicals on time and some drivers misplace their cards . Those are the causes of most violations . In many states if a driver is found to not have a valid card the truck won't be allowed to move without a qualified driver . As for Onyred's comments , yes , a driver with a forged card IS a bad guy . Anyone that can't pass a physical has no right to endanger the public . If he can't pass a physical he likely qualifies for disability and job training benefits . Any employer using him is guilty of criminal negligence . There is no place in the industry for people like that .

This story shows ignorance on the part of the reporters . The FMCSA requires carriers to keep a file on every driver . Among the documentation required is a copy of the long form for the physical required to get the medical card . No legitimate carrier would allow a driver behind the wheel without a proper physical . The liability is too great and yes , the major concern of most carriers is money . Some carriers are slack in making sure cards are renewed before expiration . Some drivers misplace their cards . It is not true all drivers just continue on without a valid card . In many states that truck won't move without a qualified driver . As for Onyred's comment , there is no excuse for an unfit driver to be behind the wheel . If a driver can't pass a physical he is unfit to drive and a danger to the public . If he can't pass the physical he likely qualifies for disability and job training assistance . There are not nearly as many drivers with forged certificates as this report implies but those with forged certificates ARE bad guys .

Shame on KSHB. What did Dave peterson commit to a year of adertising? What a person driving a car with a heart condtion can't kill someone? Should they be removed from the road as well. Thats a lot of people. I drive a truck for a living. I have to get a physical every other year. indepent from my employer. I have to pay over $100.00 to the TSA every other year, and take tests all the time, just to keep up my haz-mat. My licence only last 4 years while everyone elses last 6. Then we as cdl drivers have to deal with ignorant people that can not figure out that if the truck takes a long time for it to get going, it is going to take the same amount to stop it. Think about that when you cut in front of the the next truck to get to that exit, the space in front of the truck is there for a reason. We are limited on the amount of time, in a day we can work. As well as the amount in a week. Think about that next time your in a hospital, and you see a tired intern. how many hours have they been working. We as drivers are also subject to drug screening not only by our employer, but the DOT anytime the wind blows. How many other jobs out have as many hoops to jump through, just to make living. Check your facts. What are percentages, of bad cdl drivers. I would say low. If you want drama, watch Peterson's ads. I myself am tired of jake leged lawyer ads. I want NEWS. Must be nice to work behind a desk.

Unfortunately many of these drivers know no other form of work. Where do you go when your chosen profession tells you that you can no longer do a job you love? Many of these drivers are at an age where they cannot possibly learn a new profession, or they simply have no desire to. That is the sad truth behind why a lot of these "forged" cards exist. My family is tied to the trucking industry very closely and I have seen it first hand- its a sad, hard fact. I feel there are a lot of other safety regulations in place, maybe its time to look at alternatives to make this work. The truckers ARE NOT the bad guys here. People must remember: IF YOU BOUGHT SOMETHING AT THE STORE TODAY- THANK A TRUCK DRIVER!!!! (how else do you think it got there???)

My husband drove Over the Road for 40 years. We saw first hand some of the abuse that went on. In 2003 he suffered a heart attack while he was parked at a company terminal in Marietta, GA. His company immediately "grounded" him. Too bad there aren't more companies like that.

i saw your show about the unsafe truckers. was raly sad to see that a major news programe would stoop so low as to make everyone who saw this show to be scared to be around any trucks as they might be one of these trucks. how about haveing a show on the people that drive cars that are just as phisicatly unfit to drive and that fall asleep at the wheel, how about reporting that 75% of the car truck accidents or caused by the drivers of the cars. even if your facts were anywhere neer right. you should have a little more pride in your job then to scare people just to get your ratings
