Sex For Sale Ads Still Easy to Find

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – They have bold headlines like “Hot & Sexy” and “Friday Playmate." Some include racy pictures. Some suggest prices by the number of “hugs” or “kisses”.

They are the on line ads which suggest sex for sale.

This summer, the popular website Craigslist was pressured by attorneys general across the country, including Missouri, to crack down on the racy ads.

But an NBC Action News Investigation reveals the online sex business is still very much alive.

Old Profession, New Technology

It's a problem we first exposed in April.

Due to the internet, many who sell sex choose not to walk the streets, but instead, work from their home and advertise on line.

We traced ads promising sex to neighborhoods across the metro.

Even upscale homes.

“It’s tough. It’s about resources and priorities and those sorts of things,” said Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens.

His department recently conducted its own sting by answering on line ads on sites like Backpage and Craigslist.

They made three arrests for prostitution.

But Kitchens admit, the oldest profession is a tough crime to crack. “It is very tough to deal with. It’s very tough to catch people.” Kitchens said.
