Using Crissy's technique, Brooke not only got a box of cereal for free at Wal-Mart, but since the sale price was cheaper than the coupon redemption value, the register actually applied the an extra dollar towards her other groceries.

At Wal-Mart, Brooke ended up paying about half-price.

At Target alone, Brooke saved $12.48 in coupons.

She even found a coupon for milk.

At a Cosentinos Apple Market, she doubled her coupons.

On her first try, Brooke scored nearly a week's worth of family groceries for $55 bucks.

“Probably saved 40 percent.” Brooke says. “I got some really good deals on stuff and I even got stuff I wouldn't usually buy.”

Is There Enough Time in a Day?

Back in the control room of NBC Action News at 5, Brooke says the hours involved could be too much for the average working mom.

“It's overwhelming to me.” she said, sounding like she wouldn’t be adopting Crissy’s techniques regularly. “Overwhelming."

“I spend about an hour a week,” Crissy says about the amount of time it takes her to clip and organize her coupons.

But, she acknowledges it takes time, about a half a day going to multiple stores matching those coupons to sales.

“The way I look at it, I'm basically getting paid my savings, in order to do this.

“So,” she says, “Unless you guys are hiring for say, $100 an hour, I come out pretty well.”
