KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Attempts by Dave’s Stage Coach Inn to keep their new 3 a.m. liquor license conjures up bad memories for some residents in that neighborhood.
In 2005, the NBC Action News Investigators exposed problems stemming from a different late night establishment just down the block.
Club Evolution was the scene of problems almost weekly.
On one Saturday night, our cameras caught young clubbers staggering down the street. One guy was urinating out in the open. Another guy was pepper sprayed and cuffed by police. The Club was allowed to serve drinks up until 3 a.m.
Despite repeated complaints from residents, Kansas City’s Regulated Industries, which controls an establishment’s liquor license, did not shut down Club Evolution.
Residents instead took their fight to court and they sued the club owner. A judge slapped the bar with a list of restrictions and the club eventually closed.
Thursday, Regulated Industries agreed to allow Dave’s Stage Coach Inn to keep its new 3 a.m. liquor license.
The agency received approval from a majority of the business owners nearby.
A spokesman for Regulated Industries told the NBC Action News Investigators, the majority of requests from bars to extend the license from 1:30 to 3 a.m. are approved. Only 30% are denied.
