KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Valentine’s Day is a day full of roses and chocolate. But for those trying to shed pounds during the lovers holiday weekend, it can be tough.

Kara Anderson, Harvesters’ Nutrition Services Manager, says there are two things you can do to not gain weight, but still enjoy all that Valentine’s Day has to offer.

As part of the Pound For Pound challenge, Anderson gave some simple ideas during NBC Action News Midday on Tuesday.

If you are going out to a restaurant, Anderson said you should skip the C’s and go for the G’s.

The C’s, which are considered a major source of excess weight include things in the title like crispy, creamed or even a club sandwich. Instead, Anderson suggested eating foods that are grilled or from the garden.

As for dessert, Anderson said you can still eat chocolate and other tasty treats. But the key is moderation. Anderson said you should split your favorite dessert with your favorite valentine. She said you should savor it, then stop and get back on your diet on Monday.
